Swimming
Difficult exercise from the 'Classical Sequence' due to problems of shoulder
girdle muscle imbalance, commonly found in sedentary workers, for example.
In preparation for this exercise much work has to be done on stretching out
and re-mobilising the shoulder girdle. Ribs, shoulder blades and spine must
be released from patterns of tension. Posterior deltoid, buttocks, hamstrings,
paravertebrals and tranverse must be strengthened. Hip flexors must be lengthened,
serratus anterior, rhomboids pectorals and trapezius must be retrained or
those arms are just too stiff to come off the floor into a position that lines
up with the upward sweep of the chest.
