Pilates Based Body Awareness (PBBA), was established in 1987 by Chris Hocking. It has consistently maintained the highest of standards in the teaching of group Pilates matwork classes.
PBBA is one of London's longest established and successful schools of Pilates matwork training. We are delighted that we are still regarded as one of the five best places to study Pilates in this vibrant and busy city (Evening Standard, 14 March 2006).
It is now widely recognised for the efficacy of its methods and for its broad understanding of both human movement and the Pilates technique.
These group classes are taught at five Levels thereby catering appropriately for the training needs of both the beginner and the athletes. The Pilates-based syllabus at each Level is derived exclusively from movement analysis of the original 'Classical Matwork' sequences, as taught by Joseph and Clara Pilates in their New York studio in the 1960s.
At Level I, PBBA deals with the most fundamental concepts of the Pilates method. During training at Levels II and III, posture improves and students become stronger and more flexible.
By Level IV, students are very close to the Pilates ideal of a strong, streamlined, fit physique and by Level V, interested students are being tutored in Pilates 'Classical Matwork'. All previous training techniques at Levels I to IV are designed to strengthen and stretch in preparation for these rewarding sequences.
PBBA invites you to practise pure, unadulterated Pilates!
