PBA
Background
YOUNG CHRIS HOCKING
PBA was formed in 1987 in response to the growing demand for young dancer
and choreographer Chris Hocking's precise and inspirational
teaching of the Pilates Technique. From the
beginning she remained true to Pilates' original formulation in avoiding the use of
special equipment, both for technical and aesthetic preference, and a strong belief that such an important technique
should be affordable by all.
Having founded the UK's first group matwork school, a concept later to be exploited by so many but equalled in its execution by so few, Chris's PBA classes soon became a defining standard in UK Pilates. Described by the Evening Standard in 2008 as "a brilliant teacher.. taking matwork into a different league", her classes have featured extensively in magazines from Time Out to Elle.
Chris's classes are affordable, effective, inspirational and fun, and provide a calm environment in which the beauty and dignity of human movement can be developed to its fullest potential.
They are also flexible, in that classes can be swapped as your schedule dictates, and graded across five different levels from beginner to the highest international standard, so that you are always working safely but in a challenging environment.
2012 Mission Statement
To consistently teach Pilates matwork to the highest of standards,
the PBA standard
To help and inspire every student who comes into class
To create a safe, friendly and uplifting
environment in which all can achieve
To educate, encourage and give strength
Who comes to PBA? All age groups, and all walks of life... For 25 years we have welcomed everyone, both men and women, from their 20s to their 60s. Unique as we all are - tall or short, big or small, old or young - we can all benefit from this highly intelligent and considered technique. PBA classes are moreover graded at five different ability levels, which students progress through at their own pace.
So, whether you are young and aspiring to get the most out of your sport or dance (Pilates being one of the best systems for alignment, balanced bio-mechanics and post-injury rehabilitation around)... or in your 30s and 40s, intent on maintaining yourself mentally and physically in peak health... or in your 50s, 60s and beyond and aware of the importance of keeping your joints moving and your muscles in good working order... you will find PBA Pilates accessible and valuable. This is exercise for life - for all we enjoy and all we endure. Pilates will support you, heal you, and give you equilibrium.
All my students come to PBA for posture, breathing, muscle tone, flexibility and agility, and all benefit from the sense of wellbeing they go home with. All take something else precious away with them... a foundation for better health.
For one hour a week, and not such a great deal of money, you could be a participant in a school of Pilates tuition that really delivers!
