Progression between levels varies according to the ability, determination and background of the student. Progression from level I to level V could take anything from 2 to 20 years. Most sedentary workers are happy to aim for level III, a level that provides and excellent and stimulating class.

Level I - Foundation
Slow careful class suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. This class concentrates on spinal alignment, the development of core strength and the use of the breath. ALL students start with this class.
3-4 months

Level II - Progression
Students become stronger and more flexible. Movement awareness and postural awareness start to develop. Level 2 has an extremely broad syllabus.
1-2 years for people new to structural training or 3-6 months for ex-dancers.

Level III - Shaping Up
The class starts to offer a challenge to the already fit. The class content demands considerable strength, flexibility and control of technique.
1-5 years

Level IV - Challenge
The class approaches an intense level of structural fitness training. It is assumed that students at this level have a good understanding of both the anatomy of human movement and Pilates matwork techniques. This is high level and demanding teaching.
1-5 years

Level V - Robust Training
A tough class demanding a high intensity of both mental and physical application, a rigorous and enjoyable challenge. Participants now ready to attempt 'Classical Matwork', the 35 original matwork exercises.
